Set in the week before Christmas, a teenager named Mickey meets his biological father for the first time. Ignoring warnings that his father may not live up to his expectations, Mikey embarks on a journey of discovery that leads him to uncover the truth about his dad, his family, and himself.
This film came from in idea of a “what-if” story based on an old childhood friend. This friend wasn’t able to meet his biological father until later in life, and although it wasn’t known what actually happened during that encounter, this short was written and based on how this friend felt after that first meetup with his father.
Going Home made its debut at the 2023 New Jersey Film Festival located in Asbury park, New Jersey. This film was selected alongside several other independent short films submitted to the event. It was shown to a crowd of over 300 people and was followed up with a Q&A session where spectators could ask the director questions on filmmaking tactics, creative decisions, and more.
The cast of this film brought so much to their respective characters. Jake Chuako was someone I’d known for a while and as soon I wrote this character and talk to him about it, I knew it was a perfect match. Russ Russo was an actor my producing partner Ryan Kennedy has know for a long time and I was lucky enough to have this role be right in his wheelhouse. And Forrest Renaissance was someone I found through Backstage, and after one zoom meeting I casted him.
This film was the culmination of my time at Montclair State University and served as my thesis film for my BFA in Filmmaking. The entire crew was built from MSU students and the budget was soley from my pocket.
